The character trait we celebrate at TPS in September is Responsibility. We define it as being dependable in carrying out jobs and duties, and being accountable for our own actions. It means people can count on us to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done and to accept the consequences of our choices. The more opportunities we give children to be responsible with small things when they're young, the more responsible they will be with bigger issues when they're older. Encouraging your child to handle age-appropriate chores, decisions, and problems are a few ways to start building responsibility. If you'd like more ideas on raising responsible children, you might consider reading a popular book called Parenting With Love & Logic by Foster Cline and Jim Fay, or Kids Are Worth It! By Barbara Coloroso. Happy character-building!
