Today a woman from Hospice of West Alabama visited TPS to tell me about some of the services offered at The Sunrise Center, the Hospice's facility that offers grief support services. I will list a few here. More information can be found at http://www.hospiceofwestalabama.com.
Camp Daybreak is a one-day bereavement camp for children ages 6-13 who have experienced the loss of someone close to them. The camp is free but preregistration is necessary. This year's camp will be held on October 30 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. If you'd like a registration form, please let me know and I will send one home with your child. Smile A While is a program for children and teens who have a loved one dealing with cancer treatment. The program is designed to help children cope with a loved one's serious illness, from the point of diagnosis through the course of the illness. It is held the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 3:30 to 4:30 at the DCH Cancer Center Art Room. For more information, call 759-6253.
Finally, Living With Cancer is a support group for those diagnosed with any type of cancer, their family members, and caregivers. It meets the second Tuesday of every month from 4:00 to 5:00pm in the DCH Cancer Center Wellness Room. For more information, call 759-7877.
