Safe Video Site for Kids on the Web

Cyber safety is a big buzzword lately, especially among parents and educators. Our county is currently working on a K-12 cyber safety curriculum that will most likely be delivered by educators from several different departments in our district, including school counselors.

In the meantime, another TPS teacher shared this website with me and thought parents might like to know about it. It is Kideos: Videos for Kids. I think the basic idea is that it is a collection of video clips for children, sort of like YouTube but focused on appropriate material for kids ages infant - 10 years. At first glance, I saw some Sesame Street, Baby Einstein, nursery rhymes, funny animals, and "virtual field trips." The site is also available as iPhone and iPad apps- hey, maybe it will come in handy for those long waits at the doctor's office! Of course you will want to explore it yourself and supervise your children to make sure it meets your personal safety and values standards, but I thought I'd share it in case you are looking for a family-friendly alternative to sites like YouTube!

Hope you and your family are having a great Fall Break!
