Valentines for Veterans
We are kicking off our second school-wide service project of the year! This one mainly takes place here at school, so you will not receive a letter from me to all parents about it, but your students' classroom teachers might mention it in their communication to you. This is the third year in a row that we will do our Valentines for Veterans project and ask our classrooms to make 20 Valentine crafts, cards, or treat bags. As in the past, I will deliver our students' handiwork to the VA hospital here in Tuscaloosa, and for the first time this year we'll also mail the Valentines and treats to two of our TPS parents who are serving in the military overseas to share with their fellow troops. Our goal with this character education initiative is for the students to personally create something to show kindness and compassion to others. Of course, if you and your family would like to create a Valentine of any kind at home to contribute to the project, you are more than welcome to! Just have your child bring it to me at school and I will be thrilled to include them in our deliveries. In previous years we have ended up with a big cart full of cards, crafts and treat bags, and I look forward to seeing what our students create again this year! I will post pictures here on the blog in a couple of weeks when everything is turned in. Thank you for your support of this and our other character education initiatives!
