Although September seems too early to talk about Christmas, the time has come! I am sending home a letter and two fliers today to all our families, because they apply both to those who want to volunteer their time or make donations as Christmas “angels” as well as those who need assistance with Christmas gifts this year.
If you would like to volunteer your time or make gift or monetary donations, you might consider helping one of the organizations on the two fliers coming home: U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots or the Salvation Army. They need help sorting and organizing, as well as funds and gifts. One of the great benefits of having these organizations in our community is that they keep track of which children are served and try to make sure no family gets double-served. But they need our support in order to do such an enormous amount of good and take on such a huge task! The contact number for both programs is 339-0012. Usually Toys for Tots puts big boxes to collect unwrapped toys around town. In the past we have had one at TPS later in the fall.
If you need assistance with Christmas gifts this year, the Salvation Army is accepting applications next week (Sept. 12-16) and the week after (Sept. 19-23). Toys for Tots will take applications the week of Oct. 3-7 only. Please see the TWO fliers being set home in your child's backpack today for details on what you need to bring and where you need to go. If you need help providing Christmas gifts for your children, I strongly encourage you to sign up for one of these two programs. This is the way our schools are handling sponsorships this year and there will probably not be other help available. If you do not receive the letter and two fliers in your child's backpack today or tomorrow, please let me know!
And of course, we all wish you and your families wonderful holidays.... several months early. :)
Thank you very much for reading! We are glad you are here!
