Camp Alabama Storm

First, a reminder- 2nd Grade Career Day is this Friday, October 21. Each class will hear from 5 different people about their jobs. Many speakers start at 8:30, so if you can avoid tardies or absences that day, your child will have a better chance to catch all the fun! I hope it is an enjoyable and educational experience for all. I expect to post pictures on the blog this weekend so you can get an idea of what the day was like.

Now, onto the real announcement: On November 11-13, there will be a free overnight camp for children ages 8-12 who were affected by the April tornadoes: Camp Alabama Storm. It looks like a great opportunity if your child had a traumatic experience with that weather event. Their goal is to provide a fun, relaxing, safe place for campers to tell their story, celebrate the present, and look toward the future. There will be arts and crafts, a drum circle, bonfire, hayride, storytelling, outdoor cookout, canoeing, hiking, live music, outdoor games, and more. If your child isn't old enough or wasn't affected by the tornado, please spread the word to others who might be interested!

The camp being paid for by donations. To date, volunteers have raised over $10,000! Donations cover the costs of food, lodging, transportation, t-shirts, printing, and postage. If you or someone you know is interested in making a tax-deductible donation, email campalabamastorm@gmail.com.

If you'd like more information, you can download the application and information packet at this website:

The camp is free, but applications are necessary. They'd like to receive all applications by November 1.

Thanks for reading! We are glad you are here!
