Today we started Safe Child lessons in 1st grade. Wingo, Sullivan, Sevedge, and Patterson have their first two lessons this week. Next week, Durrett, Watkins, Curry, Mitchell, and Henderson will have their first two lessons, and the week after will be Bosch, Wheat, Simpson, Pate, and Junkin. The final two lessons will be taught by me during our regularly scheduled classroom lessons at the end of February, beginning of March, and mid-April. A detailed letter went home to all 1st grade parents about Safe Child last month to give you and overview of what your child will be learning. If you have any questions, please let me know!
In 2nd grade this week and next week, we will continue the career lesson we started in December. Students will watch short video clips of community members talking about their jobs, then sort out different jobs according to the Holland theory about the match between personality and career. During this lesson or our next one, students will have the chance to write down questions they'd like to ask the community members in our video. I'll email the questions to them and will share their answers with 2nd grade classes in a future lesson.
