I couldn't wait to thank you for your incredible support of the Treats for Troops project and show you a few pictures. I was absolutely amazed at all the candy and cards you sent in! So was my Soldier's Angel colleague at the central office, who could not believe her eyes. (Good thing she could still see- she was basically buried up to her eyes in candy!) She said this would mean so much to the troops she is in contact with. She is even planning to photocopy some of the cards so that she can spread our kind messages among several military locations! We are also sending packages of letters and candy to a few TPS parents and relatives of teachers who are stationed abroad.
It was really touching to see the candy and cards rolling in all week, and especially heartwarming to see so many students and teachers wearing camouflage and patriotic dress on Friday. I heard from numerous teachers, parents, and students that this was a meaningful, enjoyable project that led to great discussions and lessons at home and at school. Thank you so much for your support- I know times are tough here for so many of us, and it was really a special feeling to see the huge collection that we put together.
Here are pictures of some of the cards- the ones I flipped open as I packed them were so touching and adorable. I didn't get to photograph one that said "Thank you for being brave and keeping us safe. For this, we award you with candy," but it also put a smile on my face!
Below are a few pictures of the collection, BUT keep in mind that my central office colleague surprised me and had our collection picked up by intraoffice mail on Thursday (before I had time to photograph them), so the following pictures only show what we collected on Friday alone! Isn't that AMAZING? (At least I finally used up my stash of empty copy paper boxes I had been hoarding for a good cause!) In total we had 8 copy paper boxes completely full of candy, two bags of cards, two pretzel barrels of candy, and numerous plastic shopping bags of candy. My heart feels great and I hope yours does too. :)
