If you're a kindergarten parent, you may be wondering why your child hasn't yet had the classroom lesson on anger that I described in a December blog post! Due to the busy-ness of the week right before our winter break and the snow days and DIBELS testing this week, I've moved the remaining 7 kindergarten lessons to next week. I'll finish up the anger lesson with the classes I haven't seen yet next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday!
We started our "Safe Child" lessons this week in five 1st grade classrooms. By the end of March, all 1st grade classes will have completed all four Safe Child lessons. This is an established curriculum that has been taught in first grade across Tuscaloosa County for decades. The program is designed to teach children personal safety skills that help protect them from abduction and abuse. The first two lessons are taught by Mrs. Leslie Dancer, a former principal who is now a Safe Child educator. She is engaging and enthusiastic and the kids seem to enjoy her time in the classrooms. I'll teach the final two lessons in February and March. A letter with more details is going home today with all 1st graders, and a "safety rules" handout and review booklet will go home after the final lesson. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know!
