Support From Our Community

I like to let you know about local retailers that support our children and schools, so that you can say thank you the next time you pop in or consider them for any business needs you may have. This past Christmas, my heart was once again touched by the generosity of several businesses and organizations in our community who contributed in various ways to make the holidays pleasant for students in our county and at TPS. They are:

The Athlete's Foot- Northport
The Dollar Tree- Northport
Alabama ONE Credit Union- Highway 69
Bailey's TaeKwonDo- Patriot Parkway (one of our Adopt-A-School partners)
First United Security Bank- Highway 69 (one of our Adopt-A-School partners)
The Community Foundation of West Alabama

Along similar lines, you may have seen on the news that Alabama Credit Union sponsors a program called "Secret Meals" in our city and county elementary schools, including TPS. The credit union solicits donations from individuals and businesses to fund baggies of weekend meals that go home with a small number of students on Fridays, to bridge the gap between Friday's school lunch and Monday's school breakfast. This has been a meaningful way to help many students whose families may not always have enough to eat, and we appreciate the credit union's efforts to bring this program to our county and keep it running smoothly. In fact, I believe they implement the secret meals in all or most of the state of Alabama- wow!
