Kindergarten Lesson

During the next two weeks, I'll visit all the kindergarten classrooms for a lesson on a "magical" character word- perseverance! We'll read The Little Engine That Could, sing a song about perseverance, and emphasize that effort and persistence can help us learn to do difficult things and achieve goals that are important to us at school, home, extra-curricular activities, etc.

If you're a kindergarten parent, look for a page coming home in the next two weeks with a drawing of a goal your child would like to accomplish and the lyrics to the perseverance song. You can ask your child to show you the hand motions to the song as well! During the lesson I'll also model positive self-talk that the kids can use when things get difficult. Just like the train engine in the story, they can say to themselves "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..." It's a great time to learn a little bit of extra encouragement as they start tackling reading, math, and so many other new skills for the first time!
